PH365 Baccarat Squeeze: Does It Change the Odds?

A baccarat squeeze does not change a hand's outcome: the four cards are already dealt and fixed the moment they leave the shoe, and squeezing only slows down how they are revealed.

Baccarat squeeze is a live-dealer table built around the traditional slow card reveal, run over standard punto banco rules. Whether the squeeze theatre changes anything mathematical is a fair question, and the short answer is no — the cards are already fixed once the shoe deals them. This page covers the mechanic, then shows the banker, player and tie edges with the arithmetic behind each one.

PH365 Baccarat Squeeze: What the Squeeze Actually Is

The game deals four cards face down at the start of a round, then reveals them slowly rather than turning them over at once:

  1. The dealer works from an eight-deck shoe of standard 52-card decks, shuffled before every shoe.
  2. Four cards are dealt face down — two to Player, two to Banker — before any reveal begins.
  3. The dealer quickly reveals the cards for whichever side carried the smaller total wager that round.
  4. The dealer then squeezes the cards for the side that carried the larger wager, bending a corner slowly to expose the pip value.

If both sides carried an equal total wager, both hands get the slow squeeze treatment rather than one being opened quickly.

Why the Reveal Order Never Changes the Result

Problem: a slow, theatrical reveal can look like it is building toward more than one possible outcome, the way a shuffle or a cut might.

Fix: the four cards are already dealt face down before the squeeze starts. Bending a corner to expose a pip value one edge at a time does not redraw the card, reorder the shoe, or add a fifth card to either hand — it only changes how long the table waits to see a result that was fixed the instant the cards left the shoe.

Banker, Player and Tie: the House Edge, With the Maths

Standard 8-deck baccarat probabilities are widely published: Banker wins roughly 45.86% of resolved hands, Player 44.62%, and a Tie lands on about 9.52% of hands (source: Wizard of Odds’ combinatorial baccarat analysis, wizardofodds.com/games/baccarat/). Applying those probabilities to each bet’s payout gives the standard house edges:

BetPayoutExpected value per unit stakedHouse edge
Banker0.95:1 (5% commission)0.4586 × 0.95 − 0.4462 × 1 = −0.01061.06%
Player1:1 (even money)0.4462 × 1 − 0.4586 × 1 = −0.01241.24%
Tie8:10.0952 × 8 − 0.9048 × 1 = −0.143614.36%

Tie’s edge is more than ten times Banker’s, which is the arithmetic reason it is treated as a side bet rather than a main wager on most tables. What house edge means and how it’s calculated in general covers the same formula applied across other game types on this site.

Standard Bets and the 5% Commission

Three wagers sit on every round, and each pays differently:

  • Banker — pays 0.95:1 on a win; the 5% held back is the commission that produces Banker’s 1.06% edge instead of a lower one.
  • Player — pays even money, 1:1, with no commission taken.
  • Tie — pays 8:1 at the standard rate this page uses; some tables run a lower Tie payout instead, which widens the edge further.

Evolution runs baccarat squeeze from its own live studios, and Evolution’s licence record as the studio behind this table covers where the studio is regulated. Two other Evolution and Pragmatic Play Live formats sit alongside it on this site: Crazy Time’s Top Slot and bonus-game rules and Sweet Bonanza CandyLand’s wheel, segment by segment, both reachable from the live casino game families PH365 covers.

FAQ

Does squeezing the cards change who wins a baccarat hand?

No. All four cards are dealt face down before the squeeze starts, so the winning side is fixed before the dealer opens a single corner. Squeezing changes only the pace of the reveal, never which cards were dealt.

Why does the Banker bet carry a 5% commission?

Banker wins slightly more often than Player across a full shoe, so the commission brings its edge down close to Player's rather than leaving Banker a much stronger bet than the alternative. Paid at 0.95:1 instead of even money, it still ends up favoring the house by 1.06%.

What is the house edge on a Tie bet?

14.36% at the standard 8:1 payout, the widest edge of baccarat's three main wagers by a large margin. A Tie hits often enough to keep the bet appearing, but the true 8-deck probability of a tie is only around 9.5%, well short of what 8:1 would need to break even.

How many decks does baccarat squeeze use?

Eight decks of 52 cards, shuffled before each shoe, the same structure used across Evolution's other live baccarat tables. Aces count as 1, cards 2 through 9 by pip value, and 10s and face cards count as zero.
