Ocean King is the name most players use for an entire genre of fish-shooting games, but it started as one specific cabinet. IGS, a Taiwan-based arcade developer, built it as a multiplayer machine seating several players around a single shared screen of fish. IGS lists Ocean King among its arcade titles on its own company site, alongside other cabinet games it develops and sells to arcade operators. The company was established in 1989 and is headquartered in New Taipei City, Taiwan, where it still designs and sells both the software and the hardware behind its cabinets. IGS also builds online and mobile titles alongside its arcade line, which is one reason the Ocean King name travelled from a physical cabinet into a much wider online catalogue over time.

From Arcade Cabinet to Online Fishing Table

The two share the same core idea, a cannon and a multiplier per fish, but almost nothing else about how they’re played. A shared arcade screen turns into a private session, a joystick turns into a tap, and tickets turn into casino credit. That’s also why an online fishing game and the original Ocean King cabinet can look completely different despite both tracing back to the same mechanic.

Problem: “Ocean King” gets used online as a generic label for almost any fish-shooting game, including ones IGS had no part in building. Fix: Check the studio credited on a game’s own loading screen or info panel.
